How to Replace a Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Filter

Which Frigidaire filter do you have?

• PurePour PWF-1 (FPPWFU01): used in many current Frigidaire and Frigidaire Gallery models, including the GRFS2853AF, FRSS2623AS, FRSS26L3AF, GRSS2652AF and GRSC2352AF. It is a cylindrical filter mounted inside the fresh-food compartment.
• PurePour Connect PWF-2 (FPPWFU02): used in some newer Gallery models, such as the GRMC2273CF. It is not the same as the PWF-1.
• PureSource Ultra and Ultra II (ULTRAWF, EPTWFU01): used in many models from the last decade.
• PureSource 3 and older filters: some older models have the filter behind the bottom grille with a push-button release.

The quickest way to confirm is to read the part number on your current filter, or enter your model number in our filter finder. Frigidaire filters are not all interchangeable.

Where is the water filter on a Frigidaire refrigerator?

Frigidaire says most of its refrigerator filters are either in the back upper right corner of the fresh-food compartment or in the grille at the base of the fridge.

• PurePour (FPPWFU01): inside the fresh-food compartment, often on the ceiling of the compartment.
• PureSource 3 (WF3CB): side-by-side models with the filter at the back of the top right of the fresh-food compartment.
• Older models: some have the filter behind the bottom grille with a push-button release.

Step-by-step instructions

1. Find the filter. PurePour filters are inside the fresh-food compartment, often on the ceiling of the compartment. Older PureSource filters may be elsewhere, so check your manual if you don't see it.
2. Remove the old filter. PurePour (FPPWFU01): push the filter in to release it, then pull it out and discard it. Have a towel ready for a little water.
3. Prepare the new filter. Remove any protective cap or seal from the new filter and check that the part number matches.
4. Install the new filter. Slide the new filter into the housing and push until it locks in place.
5. Flush the system. Frigidaire recommends running water through the dispenser for about 3 minutes (around 1.5 gallons) and discarding it. The first water may sputter while air clears.
6. Reset the filter indicator. Press and hold the Water Filter button for about 3 seconds until the status changes. Check your manual if your control panel looks different.

After you change the filter

• Check for leaks around the housing after a few minutes. A drip usually means the filter isn't fully locked.
• If your ice tasted stale, throw out the first batch of ice made after the change.

Frigidaire says to replace PurePour filters every 6 months or 125 gallons, whichever comes first, and to change the filter before using a fridge that has sat unused.

Does the FPPWFU01 replace older Frigidaire filters?

Only in models designed for PurePour. Older PureSource housings and the newer PurePour Connect (FPPWFU02) take different filters. Check your model number before buying.

Why is water dripping after I changed my Frigidaire filter?

The filter usually isn't pushed fully into the locked position. Push it in firmly until it locks, then check for drips while dispensing.
