GE Refrigerator Water Filters by Model

Current GE and GE Profile refrigerators mostly use the XWFE or RPWFE filter, both with a built-in chip the fridge can read. Many older GE side-by-sides take the MWF.

Identifying your GE filter

  • GE's own parts page for your model number lists the correct filter.
  • The MWF and the XWF/XWFE fit different housings. Read the part number on your old filter before you buy.
  • The older XWF has no chip and isn't a guaranteed substitute for the XWFE.
  • RPWFE filters sit in a blue or a grey holder, and the two install differently.

GE filter questions

Is the XWFE the same as the XWF?

No. The XWFE has a chip and the XWF doesn't; fridges that expect an XWFE can show an error with an XWF.

Can I use an XWFE instead of an MWF?

No. They fit different filter housings. If your old filter is an MWF (or the older GWF), buy the MWF; Sears PartsDirect lists the MWF as the replacement for GWF, MWFA and MWFP.

Why does GE list two filters for some models?

For some RPWFE models, GE's parts page also lists the XWFE as compatible. We show the RPWFE first and note the alternative.
